Durham Regional Police are asking anyone with information to come forward after an Ajax man was charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement. Investigators say they are concerned there may be other victims.

The charges follow a police response to a residence near Lake Driveway West and Hawkins Crescent in Ajax on Thursday, Oct. 1. Durham Regional Police said West Division officers were called at approximately 6:10 a.m.

According to police, an adult woman had agreed to visit the suspect at his home to spend time with him. Police allege that, once she was inside, he forcibly stopped her from leaving and sexually assaulted her.

The woman later escaped the residence and contacted police, according to the release. She was taken to a local hospital with injuries police described as minor.

Officers went to the suspect’s residence and arrested him without incident, police said.

Mandela Muiruri, 29, of Ajax, is charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement. The allegations have not been proven in court.

As part of their appeal for information, police have made a photograph of the accused available with the release in the News Room section of the Durham Regional Police Service website.
