Pickering City Hall's newly renovated Council Chambers are now home to a new public art installation. The sculpture, titled Je Me Souviens, was created by Pickering resident and PineRidge Arts Council member Dorsey, according to a City of Pickering news release.

A Work About Time and Memory

The piece is built around two circular forms. According to the City, one circle represents the experiences that have shaped the community, while the other points toward what lies ahead.

The smaller, upper circle is meant to evoke memory and reflection, gathering the moments and influences that form the foundation of people's lives. The larger circle draws attention to the present, suggesting both awareness and the potential for growth and change.

Ten overlapping leaves flow through the composition, growing larger as they progress. The City says the sequence represents development over time, from early beginnings to maturity, and highlights how human experience evolves.

Together, the elements are intended to convey continuity, transformation and the accumulation of knowledge across a lifetime.

Local Roots, International Career

Dorsey, who is now Canadian, was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He spent four years as a jet aircraft mechanic in the US Air Force before immigrating to Toronto, where he eventually studied Visual Arts and Education at York University.

His sculptures have been exhibited across Canada, as well as in the United States and Germany. He lives with his family in Pickering.

Residents can view Je Me Souviens in the Council Chambers at Pickering City Hall, located at One The Esplanade.

The City is also reminding residents that the next municipal election takes place on Monday, October 26, 2026. Election information is available at pickering.ca/vote.
