Drivers in Pickering will lose a key route to Highway 7 starting next week, as the City closes a stretch of Sixth Concession Road for a major reconstruction project.

The closure begins Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and is expected to last until December 2026, according to a City of Pickering notice. The work zone runs from the entrance to the Dorsay Community and Heritage Centre to roughly 60 metres west of the Greenwood Road intersection.

What's being done

The City's contractor, Nuroad Construction Ltd., will carry out the reconstruction of Sixth Concession Road under Tender No. T2026-6, along with rehabilitation of the Greenwood Bridge.

The project is split into two phases. Phase one covers the bridge rehabilitation and the road reconstruction west of the bridge, and is scheduled to be finished in 2026.

A full road closure is required during this phase. While work is underway, the Greenwood Road Bridge will be shut down and drivers will not be able to reach Highway 7 via Greenwood Road.

Detours and contact information

Detour signage will be posted on-site, which the City says is intended to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently through the construction period.
