A volunteer-run food bank that delivers free meals across Durham Region — from Pickering to Bowmanville — is searching for a permanent home after handing out more than 250,000 meals in two years.
Rozi Roti – Life with Purpose, which operates entirely out of two garages, says it has distributed the meals at no cost to households since its launch. The organization is now appealing for help finding suitable, affordable space for food storage, sorting and distribution so its work can continue sustainably.
Free delivery, open to all
According to the organization's two-year impact report, which covers September 2024 to September 2026, the group provides 100 per cent halal food with free home delivery throughout Durham Region.
The service is open to anyone in need, regardless of faith, culture, race or background. Food is also distributed through seven community collection points across the region.
For Pickering residents facing food insecurity, the organization offers a no-cost option that comes directly to the door — a service model that removes barriers such as transportation and the stigma some families feel when visiting a food bank in person.
A call for space
Founder Laeeq Qureshi says the organization has not yet secured a dedicated facility, and its all-volunteer operations are currently squeezed into the two garages it has used since the beginning.
The group is asking for introductions to property owners, businesses or community organizations that may be able to help it find appropriate space. Qureshi can be reached at 647-561-7979 by anyone with a lead on a location or a willingness to help.
The organization also says it welcomes interviews and site visits for anyone who wants to observe its volunteer operations firsthand.
