Drivers, pedestrians and transit riders passing through Pickering's civic core will need to plan around a two-week closure of Glenanna Road.
The road and its west sidewalk are shut down from Pickering Parkway to the south limit of The Esplanade South, according to a City of Pickering notice. The closure began Tuesday, October 13 and is scheduled to remain in place until Monday, October 26.
Why the road is closed
The Region of Durham is installing a new sanitary sewer and watermain in the area, the notice says. The work prompted the full closure of the affected stretch to both vehicles and pedestrians.
Detours have been set up for drivers and pedestrians, and signage is posted along the affected routes. A location map showing the closure area is available through the city's notice, which is posted at pickering.ca.
Civic core area affected
Glenanna Road runs through the heart of Pickering's civic core, near City Hall at One The Esplanade. Commuters, transit riders and anyone heading to municipal buildings in the area may want to leave extra travel time while the closure is in effect.
