Pickering residents who could not attend this month's all-candidates forums can now watch the sessions online, with just days to go before municipal voting begins on Monday, October 19.

The recordings cover the mayoral race and the council contests in wards 1, 2 and 3, according to All About Durham, which published the videos on its site. Links to the individual recordings are available through the outlet's original forum report.

The forums were organized by local community associations as a way for voters to hear candidates discuss local priorities in the lead-up to the October 26 municipal election. For residents who missed the in-person events, the recordings offer a second chance to compare candidates' answers on their own schedule.

Who hosted which session

The mayoral forum was held on October 7. It was organized jointly by the Fairport Beach Neighbourhood Association, the Pickering West Shore Community Association and the Rougemount Community and Recreation Association.

Those three groups also ran the Ward 1 and Ward 2 sessions. The Greenwood Community Association hosted the Ward 3 forum.

In Ward 1, the recording features the local councillor candidates only. Regional councillor Maurice Brenner was acclaimed to his seat, so no forum was needed for that race, according to All About Durham.

What voters need to know

Pickering's online voting period runs from Monday, October 19 through Monday, October 26, with election day falling on October 26.

The forum videos are informational and do not replace the City of Pickering's official voter resources. Residents should confirm their eligibility, voting instructions and any deadlines through the city's official election information.
