Voting in Pickering's municipal election opens Monday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m., and electors will have a full week to cast their ballots either online or in person before polls close on election day, Monday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m.
According to a City of Pickering news release, electors can vote from anywhere using a phone, tablet or computer with internet access. Voters will need their Voter Information Package and their full date of birth to log in and complete an online ballot.
Anyone who has not received a Voter Information Package in the mail is asked to call the City's municipal elections team at 905.420.4660 ext. 8683.
Paper ballots also an option
Electors who prefer to vote the traditional way can cast a paper ballot at any designated voting location in Pickering, rather than being tied to a single site. Identification showing the voter's name and qualifying address is required. A list of acceptable identification is available on the province's website.
On election day itself, all five voting locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., offering both internet and paper ballot voting. The Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex is one of the designated locations.
Help available for voters
Authorized Election Officials will be on hand at the City's Voter Assistance Centres and voting locations to help electors with online voting and with obtaining their voting credentials. The assistance centres will also have iPads available for residents who do not have internet access at home.
The City says full election details — including key dates, voter and candidate information, voting methods and ward boundaries — can be found at pickering.ca/vote.
Voters who need help at any point in the process can contact the City of Pickering's Municipal Elections team by phone at 905.420.4660 ext. 8683 (VOTE).
